Mary Evelyn Cox Guthrie(aka Lynn or Chief)Mary Evelyn Cox Guthrie, 82, died peacefully at her home in Pleasant View, March 19th, surrounded by her family, from Respiratory Failure. She was born in Ordway, Co., the only child of William Gordius and Pocahontas Wadlington Cox, both deceased. Her family moved to Utah during WWII. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State college. She married Donald Lloyd Guthrie, 7 Jan. 1950, in Evanston, Wyo. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 2012 after 62 years of marriage.They were parents of four daughters: Karol L. (David, decd) Hughes, N. Ogden, DonaLee J. (Dan, decd) Tracy, Reno, NV, Gail M. (Greg) Long (LTC AUS decd) and Jennifer E. (Michael) Earl, Huntsville, UT; 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Mike) Thomas, Brandon Hughes (decd), Mathew Long, Sarah Earl, Chase Earl, Kimberly (Curtis) Waite, Michael Earl Jr. (decd) 7 great grandchildren: Aria Hughes, Mykah Thomas, Karsyn and Kylie Earl, and Conner, Landen and Logan Waite.She enjoyed her career, and retired from HAFB as a Branch Chief in the directorate of Distribution after 35 years of service. She had been a member of the USN Reserve, Quill and Scroll, the PTA, WABC, UWGA, the Business and Professional Womens club, the Federal Managers Assoc. and NARFE.Her hobbies were reading and traveling. She and Don enjoyed their many trips through the United States in their motor home, and several flights to European countries where their daughter was stationed. She enjoyed their summer home at Bear Lake where she served on the Board of Trustees of the Sweetwater CTP owners Assoc.She was an advocate of equal opportunity and treatment. She was a member the Baptist Church and believed most conflicts could be resolved if everyone followed the Golden rule.We would like to thank Hospice of Utah for the wonderful care they gave mom in her last days.A viewing will be held on Sunday evening March 24, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary and services will be held Monday March 25th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
