Mary Monson Sawaya's Obituary

MARY MONSON SAWAYA Our precious, dear Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma departed from us at home, to be present with her Lord and Savior, at 9:50 PM on Monday, September 23, 2013 surrounded by her children. Mary Monson Sawaya was born October 28, 1932 in Provo, Utah to Albert and Olea Sims Monson. Moms family lived in several places before settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended East High and graduated from South High School. She worked as a model and telephone operator before meeting dad. One day after work, she walked out and found two suitors waiting to drive her home. She knew by choosing dads truck to get into, he was the man she would spend her life with. On July 18, 1955 she married the love of her life, Edward Donald Sawaya, in Lubbock, Texas. Throughout Dads 20 year career as an Air Force pilot they raised six children while stationed at many bases around the U.S. and in Okinawa. After retiring, they settled in South Ogden, Utah where Mom became a skin care specialist for Elysee Cosmetics and ZCMI. Moms life was all about her love for the Lord, her husband, children and family. She was an incredible cook, the wonderful nightly meals and amazing feasts she prepared for every holiday and family gathering are legendary. Surviving are her children: Kathleen (Pat) Vega of Clinton, Edward Jr. (Jackie) Sawaya of Uintah, Debbie (Jeff) Lowe of Roy, Sally (Les) Muchmore of South Ogden, and Mary (Scott) Hatfield of Washington Terrace. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and nine and a half great grandchildren, two sisters, Gloria Neff, and Beverly Blake. Mom lost her husband in November 2009 and her son Thomas (Tom-Tom) August 2010. Also preceding her were her parents, brother Danny and sister LaWanna. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The family would like to give a special thank you to P.A.
