Obituary

Mattie Dell Allgood Rupper, affectionately known as Mattie Dell, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on August 11, 2024, in Farmington, Utah. Born on April 28, 1929, in McNary, Arizona, Mattie Dell's life journey was marked by her pioneer heritage, her devotion to family, and a life of service.

Mattie Dell was born to Lucretia Willis Grissom Allgood and Talmage D. Allgood in McNary, Arizona. Her father died before she turned seven. His tragic death actually led to the formation of her testimony of Jesus Christ. She felt at peace and believed everything would be okay. Her life was challenging, but she loved her mother, three sisters and deceased brother and felt she enjoyed an ideal childhood in McNary and Snowflake Arizona. Later, Mattie Dell moved with her mother to northern California where she graduated from high school. She majored in early childhood education and graduated from Chico State University. She landed a teaching job in Salt Lake City that resulted in her living in the Beehive House and meeting a young and handsome medical doctor.

On June 18, 1952, in the Manti Temple, she was sealed to Dr. Warren R. Rupper. She stopped teaching and started her family as Warren's medical career took them to various places, including Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah; Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Billings, Montana; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Evansville and Indianapolis, Indiana; and Ogden, Utah.

Although Mattie Dell was busy raising her five children, she made time for arts and crafts such as ceramics, crocheting, knitting, and baking. She was renowned for her delicious cinnamon and orange rolls, a treat that brought joy to her Ogden neighborhood. Her zest for life and her culinary talents were only surpassed by her dedication to her faith. Alongside Warren, she served in the Ogden Temple and as missionary in the Spain Barcelona for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings in various capacities but her favorite callings involved the Primary especially Cub Scouts. She was an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneer (DUP) camp, Purple Sage in Ogden. After Warren died, she moved to Centerville and began the Bangerter Station DUP camp. She loved demonstrating pioneer games at the Centerville DUP cabin yearly for school groups. Mattie also served as a hostess in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building where she enthralled people with her stories of the building for almost 14 years when Covid-19 ended her service. She especially enjoyed collecting nativities from all over the world and sharing them with others at Christmas time.

As a family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our "Covington Senior Living Family in Farmington" and the leadership of the Steed Creek Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for their loving kindness, attentiveness, and service.

Preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her parents, and siblings James, Violet, Ida (Pat), and Anna Grissom, Mattie Dell's legacy continues through her children: Bruce (Meiling), Becky Homer, Eileen (Ron) Parr, David (Leslie), and Sandy (Kevin) Cottle. Her love and teachings will live on through her nineteen grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, with two more on the horizon.

As we remember Mattie Dell, we celebrate a life beautifully lived.
