Obituary

Mell Wardle Ellis Mell W. Ellis was born on March 19, 1924 in Lehi, Utah. She married Elden Ellis on November 27, 1946 and they had one son, Elden Taylor Ellis. Mell died peacefully in her home on August 9, 2013. Mell was predeceased by her husband, Elden, and her granddaughter, Julie Anne Ellis. Her surviving family are her son, Elden Taylor Ellis and his wife, Nancy from Orlando, Florida, her granddaughter Jana Ellis Colman and her husband Chris from Killeen, Texas, her granddaughter Elizabeth Ellis from Orlando, Florida, and her three sisters, Zada Clarke from Santa Monica, California, Beatrice Friel from Orem, Utah, and Velda Jarman from South Ogden, Utah. Mell was incredibly talented at sewing, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, cooking, gardening and many other homemaking arts and crafts. She volunteered at J. A. Taylor Elementary School for 21 years and worked with hundreds of young children throughout that time period. As a result she received the Citizen of the Year Award (2005) from the Centerville, Farmington Rotary CLub and the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, "in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world." She was "Grandma Mell" to the many children in her neighborhood, Ward and school. Mell believed in the mission of the Festival of the Trees and Primary Childrens Hospital. She made and donated numerous quilts over many years to the festival and volunteered her time to "man" ticket booths and sales counters for the festival. She was loved by many and will be genuinely missed by us all. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., and will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, Utah 84403. There will be a gathering time prior to the funeral beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mell requested that donations be sent to Festival of the Trees in care of the Primary Childrens Medical Center.
