Michael Glenn Bick's Obituary

Michael Glenn Bick passed away at home on December 18, 2014. Mike was born March 3, 1939 in Modesto, California. He was the first son of Glenn and Opal (Rodenbaugh) Bick. In 1947 the family moved to Oregon before settling in Ogden in 1951. Mike graduated from Ben Lomond High School where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. He served in the U.S. Navy and later worked at Thiokol before joining the Ogden City Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Captain. In 1991, Mike was honored as Fire Fighter of the year; he retired from the Department in 1996. Following his retirement, Mike was the maintenance supervisor at Handi Trans and worked in the pro shop at Ben Lomond Golf Course. He was an accomplished golfer esteemed by friends and peers A history buff and story-teller, Mike enjoyed reading about the Civil War and exploring genealogy. He led the effort to restore Ogden Citys first fire pumper and used his Shetland ponies (Molly and Lucy) to pull it in municipal parades. Mike liked helping people and collaborated with fellow fire fighters to build numerous homes and barns. He was the much-loved brother of Steve (Jeanie), Ken (Cindy) and Carol Byrd; father of Randy (Pia), Matt (Michelle) and Tammy (Clint) Peak, and treasured stepfather of Teri DeYoung and Jeri DeYoung. Mike leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jeb, Audrey, London, Ryan, Christian, Hayden, and Jordan. He was the loving husband of 30 years to Ruth Pilkington Bick. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Opal Bick. The family would like to thank A Step Forward Hospice (especially nurse Kristy for her loving care) and Meals on Wheels. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 100 N. Monroe Blvd., Ogden on Tuesday, December 23 at 1:00 p.m. An open house following the service will be held at the Bick residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ogden City Firemans Association.
