Obituary

Michael “Mike” Neary was born in Denver, Colorado, to Joe and Betty Neary. He spent his early years in and around the Denver area, growing up surrounded by a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

As the oldest of four children, Mike helped pave the way for his younger siblings. In 1967, he moved with his family to Utah, where he attended Bonneville High School and built the foundation for a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and love for family.

Mike enjoyed a long and honorable career as an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad. His dedication to his work and the railroad industry spanned many years and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Mike and his wife, Wendy M, were married on the 7th of May 1999, together they built a beautiful home in Willard, Utah, where they raised their daughter, Tristen. Being a father was one of Mike’s greatest joys, and he loved his daughter with all his heart. He spent countless days sharing the things he loved most—golfing, skiing, fishing, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. While he occasionally enjoyed a beer with friends, his daughter fondly remembers the Shirley Temples he would order just for her.

Anyone who knew Mike knew his quick wit and wicked sense of humor. He had a gift for making people laugh and a way of bringing warmth and light to those around him. Beneath the jokes was a caring and devoted man whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty Neary.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his daughter, Tristen, and her husband, Zack; and his beloved grandchildren, Rafe and Kai. He is also survived by his siblings, Michele (John) Lukes, Marty (Shannon) Neary, and Mary Jo (Buck) Finley; as well as his nieces and nephews- Jodi, Matt, Tony, Payton and Carson.

The lessons Mike passed on to his daughter—to work hard, laugh often, find humor in life’s challenges, cherish family, and love fiercely—will continue to live on through her and his grandchildren. His daughter will carry those gifts with her always, passing them on to his grandchildren and ensuring that a part of him remains with them every day.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
