Michael J. Verburg, 50, passed away unexpectedly February 28, 2018 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born August 24, 1967 in Ogden, Utah, the son of John Verburg and Karla Maki (Pope). Michael grew up in the Ogden area and attended Clearfield High. He married his high school sweetheart Christine Van Hulten. They were married 30 years, and later divorced. They had three children. Michael excelled at many trades. He loved gunsmithing at their business "Mikes Gun Shop" in Sunset, Utah. He later attended Weber State University and Salt Lake City Community College Police Academy. There he found his true passion in the criminal justice field and became an officer for Ogden City Police Department. Michael was a true outdoorsman and an avid tinkerer, especially with automobiles. What truly mattered most to him was his family including his seven grandchildren. He is survived by his children; Christopher (Haley) Verburg, Crystal (Josh) Landrith, Blake (Christi) Verburg; his parents, John (Helen) Verburg, Karla Pope-Maki; sister and brothers, Shawn (Verburg)Hickman; Jason Maki, Corey Maki; grandchildren; Aiden, Aurora, Atlas Verburg, Alexis and Kaylee Landrith, Christian and Hayden Goodman. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by several grandparents, aunts, and uncles. The family will meet with friends and family on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 2:00 4:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, UT.
