Obituary

Mildred Faun Hill Lyon passed away on June 23, 2012, in Mesa, Arizona, where she has lived for the past 13 years. She was 92 years of age. At her passing, she was under the tender care of Hospice of the Valley. She was born on October 27, 1919, in St. Charles, Idaho, to William Cassius Hill and Anne Elizabeth Pugmire Hill and was the fourth of eight children. She was raised and educated in Idaho. She married Donald Snow Lyon in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on November 1, 1941, and they later solemnized their marriage on January 26, 1946, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together with their three children, they lived in many places in the United States and abroad as she devotedly supported her husband in his military career as an Army officer. Following his retirement in 1961, they returned to make Ogden their home. Her husband preceded her in death on September 3, 1971.As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a visiting teacher and as a teacher and leader in many auxiliary organizations in her wards and stakes. She enjoyed family history, quilting, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and, especially, cooking. She enjoyed an admired reputation in her family and among friends as a superb cook. She will always be remembered with tender feelings of love and gratitude as a very loving and committed wife and a wonderfully devoted and caring mother. She took immense pride in being, and found great fulfillment as, a homemaker, and she truly made it an art. She was also very sensitive and solicitous about the needs of others outside her family, leading her to perform many quiet or anonymous acts of service that blessed many people. She is survived by her three children, Michael Don Lyon (Mary Margaret Sycamore) of South Ogden, Utah; Michele Evette Bowman (Richard) of Mesa, Arizona; and Eric S. Lyon (Kim Garcia) of Alhambra, California. She leaves a beautiful posterity of 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. One brother, Merrill Hill of St. George, Utah, also survives her.Funeral services for Mildred will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street in Ogden, Utah.
