Mona Joyce McConnell Mong passed away, May 3, 2015 Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born June 19, 2015 to Evelyn and Hugh McConnell in Beaconsfield, Iowa. She married Robert "Bob" Mong on December 26, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Joyce was a teacher in Wyoming before taking time away from work to raise her children. She then worked at Hill Air Force Base until retirement. Joyce was an excellent cook, seamstress and organizer. She was famous for her peanut brittle and sold it every year to raise money for the Shrine Hospital. Her family will remember all the birthday cakes and holiday treats.
Joyce is survived by her children: David, Dean, Debbie Winn (Randy), Denise Smith, and Deanna Lobato; her three sisters: Linda Wallace (Jim), Eva Lue McConnell, and her twin, Jean Hoover, who will miss her phone calls; brother, Bill McConnell; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband; sisters: Eloise Petracek, Phyllis Witt and Donna Jenkins.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Saint Josephs Villa for their dedicated care of our Mother.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services from 12:45 till 1:45 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
