West Haven - Marlene Adams Young, a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, great step-grandmother, and sister passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at her home. She passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side. Marlene was born October 17, 1932 to Oliver R. Adams and Delores D. Horrocks in Ogden, UT. She lived almost all her life along the Wasatch Front moving only when her career warranted a move. Marlene worked at the U.S. Navy base in Clearfield, UT from 1950 - 1954. From 1954 to when she retired in 1983 Marlene worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. She began as a secretary and worked her way up to manager prior to retiring. She had a wonderful career and developed many close relationships with co-workers that remained to her death. Marlenes passion throughout her life was being involved in charitable organizations. Her association with Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority was some of the most fun and rewarding times of her life. Marlene served as Chapter, City Council, and State Council President on several occasions. The friendships and camaraderie she shared with her sorority sisters enriched her life as well as supporting causes such as St. Judes Children Hospital. Marlene also served as Secretary on the board of the Egyptian Theatre Foundation. Marlene also served with the Bonneville Chapter of Telephone Pioneers. Marlene married Raymond Carl Young in 1959. They had a wonderful , loving marriage until his death in 1994. Surviving are her son, John "Randy" Young, San Diego, CA; step-son, Dean Neville, Ogden; step-daughter, Jan (Steve) Hall, Deer Lodge, MT; one grandson; seven step-grandchildren; eighteen great step-grandchildren; three sisters, Dixie (Ed) Fournier, Hayden Lake, ID, Franceen Sears, Salt Lake City; Ann Rene Shultz (Joe), Ogden; two brothers Tammy (Trish) and Stacey Adams, both of Ogden. Marlene shared a special bond with all her nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Intermountain Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Marlene during the last months of her life, specifically to nurse Julie, Chaplain Mary and social director, Marcos. In lieu of flowers, Marlene requested donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 11 am at Leavitts Mortuary, 836-36th St., Ogden, with a viewing one hour prior to service. Interment at Leavitts Aultorest Memosrial Park.
