Murl and Marian, together again
Murl Bishop, a longtime resident of Riverdale, Utah, passed away on April 4, 2025, at the age of ninety. He was born on December 30, 1934, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Harvey and Faye Bishop. He was the second youngest child of nine kids. He grew up alongside his nephew Arnold, who was the same age as Murl. The family moved to Ogden, Utah when Murl was 10 years old. He attended Ogden City schools through high school.
On January 31, 1953, he married Ellouise Bryson. They were later divorced. On June 23, 1977, he married Marian Morrell. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2017. He has six children. Ron (Mary decd) Bishop, Sheryl (Dave) Pulver, Kathy (Doug) Joynt, Clay (Jeanette) Morrell, Jeff (Billie) Morrell, and Johnny Morrell. He had sixteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Murl was always a very hard worker and became a ceramic tile setter as a teenager. He and his brother Howard started Bishop Tile in the 1960's. Howard moved on to a different job, and Murl continued with the business by himself until his son Ron took over the business. He served in the Navy Reserves. He was a volunteer Riverdale firefighter for over thirty years and loved the camaraderie he developed with the other firefighters. He was also a past president of the JC's. Murl consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence, irrespective of the task at hand. He was very close to his brothers, and they were all avid hunters and anglers. They taught this love to most of their children and grandchildren. At each gathering, they shared the same hunting and fishing stories. He retired young at the age of fifty. Marian and he bought property in Overton, Nevada and a place in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming. They both started golfing and fell in love with the game. His television always had on an old western or golf match.
He is survived by his children, a sister-in-law Norma Bishop, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Faye Bishop, his eight siblings and their spouses, Harvey Charles (Lola) Bishop, Raymond (Ray) Bishop, Delmar (Leone) Bishop, Dorothy (John) Kehmeir, Robert (Eileen) Bishop, Howard (Charlene) Bishop, John Bishop, and Ruby Bishop. His nephew/brother Arnold (Barbara) Ferguson. Daughter in-law Mary Bishop, two grandsons Nick Joynt and Scott Bishop. A very close nephew Darrel Bishop.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:00 am. at Washington Heights Church 1770 E 6200 S, South, Ogden (off Hwy 89). Cremation by Leavitt's Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation www.rmef.org
