Witty, sharp, funny Nancy Ivins Shelton passed away surrounded by her family due to health complications on July 1st, 2017. She lived a full, happy life devoted to her family and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nancy was born to Lorraine Redd and Mildred Reid on January 9th, 1935 in Overton, Nevada on the kitchen table, to which her love of fine food is attributed. A mischievous little girl, the only time Nancy wore shoes was at school, so she was always barefoot on the hot Nevada pavement. She had countless pet cats, frogs, fishes, and goats, she and a friend painted the neighbors dog green, and once came home to find her dad mistook the pitcher of pollywogs she had spent the day catching for a cool, refreshing drink! Nancy attended East High School where she met her sweetheart, Pearce Shelton. She graduated from Granite High in 1953. Pearce and Nancy dated until Pearce left for his mission during which Nancy faithfully wrote him for two years. Nancy then attended BYU. Pearce and Nancy were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Friday, April 13th, 1956. They not only celebrated their official anniversary, but also Friday the 13th in any month! Pearce and Nancy lived in Salt Lake City, Texas, and Cedar City until they moved to Washington Terrace, Ogden in 1966 where they spent over fifty years together. Pearce and Nancy were ambitious travelers, packing up their six children in a station wagon and tent trailer and going to Mexico, Mt. Rushmore, church history sites, New York, Canada, Disneyland, Yellowstone, and many national parks and monuments. They also went on a trip to Hawaii, a ski trip to Grand Targhee, and to Bear Lake, Lund, Park City, and down south to hike the Zion Narrows annually. Together, Pearce and Nancy served in many church callings and multiple missions including Boston Massachusetts, Cove Fort Utah, Valley View Girls Camp, and in the Ogden Temple for six years between their missions. Together they dedicated their lives to service in the Church and set an incredible example for their posterity. Nancy acted in many stake and community plays and portrayed the most hilarious drunk in You Cant Take It With You, and the best Mrs. Paddy in The Curious Savage. Nancy was a consummate foodie. She was always in search for the best egg foo yung and would persistently fulfill any food craving whether it be chocolates from Cummings, filet mignon from Maddox, or coconut shrimp at Red Lobster. She made memorable chicken rollups, the best scotcheroos, and always had chocolate covered raisins, Ritz crackers & squeeze cheese, pistachios, and chocolate milk for her grandkids. Nancy is survived by her brother; Reid (Nani), her six children; Stacy Dart, Scott (Stacy), Brett (Joy), Wendy Forrest (Ian), Tiffany Halterman (Kent), and Melinda, her 19 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; Pearce, daughter; Holly, granddaughter; Sariah, and sister; Della Mae. Nancy will be deeply missed by all. Her sense of humor, Scrabble skills, sweet birthday calls, and generous heart will always be remembered. We love you! Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Washington Terrace 9th Ward, 125 East 5350 South, Washington Terrace 84405 Family will greet friends prior to the service at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon 1:45 pm. Interment will follow at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
