IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nina Charlene
Hust Soderquist
August 28, 1928 – February 4, 2024
Nina Charlene Hust Soderquist was born on August 28, 1928, to Melvin A. Hust and Nina Barlow Hust at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was 95 years old. She passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, as she wanted to go. She was raised in San Diego, California. She married Emil Beus Soderquist on March 9, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She attended Weber State College.
She worked for General Mills in Ogden, Utah in the mill and said she was the last person out of the office when they closed it down. She worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an inventory specialist at Hill Air Force Base and was the sole woman there and the air traffic controllers called her Charley. She finished her career working for Hill Air Force Base.
She loved all kinds of activities. She was a snow and water skier, she bowled, played golf, took up archery, hiked and even took sailboat lessons. She often said she would have gotten a sailboat, but Emil wouldn't be able to help her get it in and out of the water. She knew how to sew and made a lot of clothes for her children when they were young. As a youth and young adult, she loved photography and always had a camera at the ready.
She was faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her biggest love was music where she held callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for over 60 years where she played the organ and piano and was a choir director. At one time she played music for almost all the organizations on the same Sundays. She loved attending the temple and in later years would attend with her daughter where she would say we are here let's stay and do more work.
She is survived by her daughter Jan ("Jenny") (Duane), son Mark (Jan) and son James ("Jim") (Angie). She has 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emil Beus Soderquist, parents Melvin A. Hust and Nina Barlow Hust, brother Lee Hust, sister Maxine McKinley, Leeanne and Carla Mahoney granddaughters, and Peggy Allred daughter in law.
She will be missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
She will be interred at Aultorest Memorial Park at 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on February 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. for a family graveside service. Visitation will be at 10:00.
