Norma Jeanne Meckes
September 7, 1922 - January 25, 2014 Norma Jeanne Thomas Meckes passed peacefully from this life on January 25, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born to William Henry Thomas, Jr and Mary Jeppson Thomas on September 7, 1922 in Malad, ID.
Her childhood was spent in southern Idaho and northern Utah. She attended schools in Malad, Logan and Ogden, Utah. She attended Weber College. She was employed at the Ogden Arsenal during the WWII years and for Bell Telephone as a teletype operator.
Jeanne married Emery Meckes on October 23, 1950. The marriage was solemnized in the Ogden Temple on March 31, 1977.
Jeanne was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and held teaching and leadership positions in the Primary and Relief Society auxiliaries. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She enjoyed sewing and reading.
Her family was her greatest joy in life; she took great interest and pride in her childrens and grandchildrens musical, sporting, and academic activities and accomplishments.
Jeanne canned produce in the fall for use through the rest of the year. Her bread and butter pickle, pickled beets, and chocolate cake were favorites among extended family and friends.
Jeanne suffered a series of setbacks during her last five years, and displayed enormous determination, courage, and strength in dealing with them.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Emery Meckes; son Stephen E. Meckes and Thomas R. Meckes (Jodie); daughter Christine Cope; brother William Henry Thomas III (Phyllis), of Carson City, Nevada; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her sisters Marianna Lee ( Farrell) of Spokane, WA, and Louise Thomas Bekker Neel ( Henry "Bud" and Kenneth R.) of Salt Lake City, UT.
A viewing will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT. A graveside service and interment will follow at Aultorest Memorial Park, Ogden, UT. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m.
The family wishes to extended their gratitude to Clearfields Rocky Mountain Care for the care and attention Jeanne received.
