Norman Jesse Secrist, 86 of Roy, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on May 16, 1924 to Jesse Avern Secrist and Cleo Kidman. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1942. He married Helen Goodale on July 6, 1949 in Casper, Wyoming and made Roy, Utah their home.Norman served honorably in World War II as a gunner in the Army during the Pacific Campaign. He earned the liberation service ribbon with a bronze star. Norman had many passions, most notably his beloved Yankees, his weekend fishing trips, watching his grandchildren play sports, listening to Dean Martin, and growing his beautiful roses. He loved baseball and once threw a no hitter during his youth. He was given the nickname, Zeke, after his father.He spent over 25 years working for Smiths Food King as a meat manager and a meat cutter until his retirement. He also worked in the family businesses at Zekes Caf and Crystal Market in Roy. Our dad had a great sense of humor and a vocabulary all his own. He filled our hearts with so much love, happiness, and laughter. We will cherish every moment we had with him and will love him forever and always. Norman is survived by his wife, Helen and four children; Cathy (Kevin) Tucker, Ritchie (Karrie) Secrist, Susan (Gordon) Frandsen, and Shelly (Dan) Parent. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Secrist and two sisters, Doris Gaston and Norene Pinkham.In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA. 94010-1795.We would like to thank Applegate Hospice and Crestwood Care Center and staff for their loving care and friendship during the past eight months.Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, in Ogden.
