Pamela Sue Carney Slater's Obituary

Pamela Sue Carney Slater 64 years of age passed away on May 29th in West Haven, Utah after a long battle with cancer. Pam was born in McAllen, Texas on January 7th 1953 to Ted and Peggy Carney. Pam attended school in Ponca City, Oklahoma graduating in 1971. On June 16th, 1974 Pam married her faithful companion L. Kent Slater and from this union came three wonderful sons: Brad & Stephanie Slater of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mike Slater of Taylor, Utah; and Joe & Bonnie Slater of Hooper, Utah. Pam was a grandmother to nine grandchildren (Derek of Brad & Stephanie; Taig, Jake, Shae of Mike Slater & Heather Nancino; Jaxon, Luke, Drew, Colby and Breck of Joe & Bonnie Slater). The three of us boys can say that throughout our lives you had never ceased to amaze and impress us. Many times growing up we were thoroughly embarrassed by mom and learned very quickly that there wasnt a boundary that you wouldnt cross if you felt that a life lesson or direction could be provided. When mischief was abound, our friends and us boys realized you were playing chess to our checkers and would thwart trouble, often early in its tracks. When struggles felt insurmountable you were steady and would move mountains as you never accepted settling or hearing the words no. You made sure that when we were tough on ourselves that we needed to step back and not sweat the small stuff, and guess what, its all small stuff. Through all of this, you also provided a warm, caring, and most of all listening heart that would nurture, encourage, and guide who we all have grown up to be today. You were our wild and wacky mother who knew no bounds. Pam was proudly married to L. Kent Slater for over 43 years. Pam was the second of five children and is survived by Ted Carney Jr. of Visalia, California; Bill & Marilyn Carney of Prescott Valley, Arizona; Matt & Lisa Carney of Diamond Springs, California. Pam also is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, which are too many to mention. Pam was preceded in death by her father, Ted Carney of Fresno, California; her mother Peggy Carney of Hamilton, Texas; her sister Sharon Elizabeth of Bakersfield, California.
