Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of this beautiful woman. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She passed peacefully at Intermountain Health (McKay Dee hospital) on December 6, 2025, at 76 years old.

Pat was born on February 7, 1949, to Clifford Gay and Allerita Wagner Gay in Ogden, Utah. She grew up in the white house west of one of the oldest saloons in the US, The Shooting Star in Huntsville, and went by "Patty."

She graduated from Weber High School in 1967, and later attended Weber State University. She received her associate's degree in journalism from Stevens-Henagar College.

In Pat's early 20's she married Leon Hartley, and from this union came three beautiful children: Lindi, Colton, and Heather. Pat and Leon later divorced.

In 1984 she met the love of her life, Jim Bearde. It was a match made in heaven, and they married June 30, 1992, in Carson City, by the skin of their teeth; she always dreamed of being a June bride. From this union she gained two more daughters, Lisa and Angie.

Pat was adored beyond measure by her husband, children and grandchildren. Together the family enjoyed so many adventures, going camping in the truck camper, motorhome, and trailers, boating, and going on ATV rides. One of our favorite memories was camping at Bear Lake and sailing on the Hobbi Cat , and our inside joke of "It never rains in Bear Lake!"

Pat worked numerous jobs throughout the Ogden area. Most notably, The Bon Marche', ZCMI and Cutter Labs. She was eventually hired on at the IRS, and later transferred to Hill Air Force Base where she flourished.

During Pat's career she received many notable achievement awards and promotions. She worked at DISA/DEC Ogden as the Protocol officer, which required a very broad knowledge and complete understanding of military and civilian worldwide protocol and foreign interfaces. She was the go-to person for all the intricate details and arrangements. This was her bliss, and she excelled at it, proven by the love and respect shown to her by so many high-ranking officials worldwide. When their execs called in for visit or travel arrangements, they would often ask, "What would Pat recommend?" Needless to say, she loved her job.

While working at DDO/IPCO Pat was the managing editor for the HUB Newspaper. She was responsible for covering events, writing articles for the paper, and publishing them. She excelled at this and it was her calling. People lovingly called her "Lois Lane" and "Patty Paparazzi" and she adored it, just as she loved her career. She was able to retire in September 2005.

After retirement, her and Jim bought a '49 Chevy and named it "Charlie Brown." They then joined Wasatch Rods and Customs Car Club for 20 years, where she held the position of correspondent, and published the monthly newsletter for 8 years. Being part of organizing the car shows was a great passion of her and Jim's.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Gay and nephew Casey France. She is survived by her husband and the love of her life Jim Bearde, her children; Lindi Silvester, Colton (Jodi) Hartley, Heather Hartley (Scott Johnson), Lisa Taylor, and Angie Manning; along with several beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings Judy Steiner, Dennis Gay, Steve (Anna) Gay, Holly (Duane) France, and many nieces & nephews.
