IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia
Gardiner
June 6, 1936 – February 5, 2025
Patricia Lee Gardiner, matriarch of the Hoaglin Clan, passed away February 5, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in Idaho Falls on June 6, 1936, the only wild child, to Donald B. and Elma T. Partridge. She spent her childhood in various locations, eventually settling in Ogden, UT.
Pat received her high school diploma from Weber High and attended some college, provided by her future employer the US Forest Service. Pat worked her way up the career ladder, in a field typically dominated by men, to become the Lead Illustrator/Cartographer. She retired from the Forest Service in 1999 after almost 40 years of service.
Pat may have been an unconventional single mother, but she fought hard to keep her five rowdy boys together as a family. In 1973 she met Dave O'Brien who became her lifelong partner and helped raise her boys and grandchildren until his death in 2009. Pat loved her boys fiercely, but she excelled at being Grandma Pat and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pat was a naturally creative and artistic person since birth. She loved piecing amazing quilts, as well as sketching, painting, etching, stained glass and creating many other masterpieces. She won several awards for top selling trees at the Festival of Trees charity. She would also create a yearly Christmas ornament for every member of her family, later in life enlisting the help of her granddaughters.
Pat was popular with both the young and older generations. She enjoyed traveling with her girlfriends. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Pat is survived by her sons; Don (Dominique) Hoaglin of Ogden, Bob (Joni) Hoaglin of West Haven, Scott (Michelle) Hoaglin of Ogden, 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her partner David O'Brien, sons Kenneth R. Hoaglin and Mark S. Hoaglin, and daughter-in-law Heidi (Don) Hoaglin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Our House Assisted Living for the care they gave Pat the past couple years.
