IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia
Goodsell
July 25, 1934 – May 26, 2024
Patricia "Pansy Ann" Porter Goodsell passed away peacefully at home in Grand Junction, CO in the early morning hours of May 26, 2024, just two months shy of her 90th birthday. The pansies in Heaven are blooming more colorfully and brighter now!
Pat was born to D. Byron and Neta E. Weaver Porter in Ogden, UT on July 25, 1934. She graduated from Ogden High School, attended the University of Utah, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She met her soulmate and the love of her life, Billie C. Goodsell, while working at Riche's Drive-Inn in Ogden. They married February 11, 1955. Bill and Pat celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past February. Their marriage was blessed with two sons and a daughter; Pat got a "bonus" daughter through Bill's previous marriage. Pat held many jobs throughout the years which included working for the I.R.S., the March of Dimes, and Sun Valley Mortgage; she was a top salesperson for Accounting & Financial Services of Ogden. Pat was a member of many groups and clubs and president of some, including the Ogden Chapter of the Utah Homebuilders Association.
Bill and Pat raised their family in South Ogden, Uintah, and Nordic Valley, UT. They loved camping, hiking and horseback riding. When their nest was empty, they went on adventures that took them to various places, towns, and states; they loved exploring and even ran a few gold mines out in the middle of nowhere from their camping trailer. They returned home to Ogden in 1998 and eventually made their way to Grand Junction, CO to be near some of the family who had migrated there. Pat adored her children and grandchildren and loved being in their company for birthdays and other family events.
Pat was a social butterfly all her life; she made friends easily wherever she went and struck up conversations with everyone in the check-out lane at the grocery store! She loved parties, dressing up for fancy occasions and events, playing Bunco and going to lunch with her friends. Pat collected elephant figurines and was crafty and creative—she made and painted ceramics (she even ran a ceramics business out of her home for a while), she loved painting furniture, making jewelry, creating stained glass pieces, and in general making the world around her a more beautiful place.
Pat loved her human family, her four-legged fur babies throughout the years, and pansies! – they were her favorite flower. She enjoyed reading and learning about history; historical novels were some of her favorite reading materials. Pat never missed an opportunity to stop at Farr's Ice Cream in Ogden whenever she returned there to visit family and friends. Pat had an aversion to early mornings (she was most definitely a night owl!) and creepy-crawly things, especially snakes!
Pat is survived by her devoted caretaker and loving husband of more than 69 years, Billie C. Goodsell, Grand Junction, CO; sons Ryan (Dee) Goodsell of Grand Junction and Blake (Ranae) Goodsell of Fernley, NV; daughter Shelley Goodsell Shulz of Copperas Cove, TX; brother William "Bill" (Sharon) Porter of Loma Linda, CA; stepdaughter Jan Goodsell Smith of Ivins, UT; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Dean Porter.
