Obituary

Ragnar Rice EngebretsenRagnar passed away peacefully incident to age at his home in South Ogden, Utah on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Ragnar was born on July 26, 1927, in Rock Springs, Wy, the son of Ray and Zina Rice Engebretsen.Ragnar was a veteran of the US Army, and after the war he fulfilled a 3 year LDS Mission to Norway. He graduated from the University of Utah w/a BS in Psychology and received his J.D. at the University of Washington. He worked for the District Attorneys Office in Santa Barbara, CA. and as County Counsel for the County of Orange, CA. He was appointed a Municipal Judge by Ronald Reagan in 1972; later was elected a Superior Court Judge in 1980. He had a reputation as being firm but fair.After being diagnosed w/Myasthenia Gravis, he became involved w/ the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation and was a board member of the Pacific Northwest Myasthenia Gravis Foundation in Seattle, WA.Ragnar is survived by his wife Calista Anne and his children: Allen Engebretsen (FL); Elyse Anne Battey (CA); David Edward (FL); Ursula Roll (Steve) (UT); Zina Engebretsen (CA); Mark Engebretsen (Tracy) (CA); and Kjell Engebretsen (UT); 23 grandchildren referred to Ragnar as Bestefar and Pop Pop; and 8 great grandchildren referred to him as Altefar; and sister Helen Wells (George). Ragnar was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Arden Bernt David Hyrum Engebretsen. Ragnar held many church assignments, especially enjoying missionary and temple work. Viewing will be on Tuesday, March 27 from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden.
