Randy Jon Anderson, age 64, died March 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. He had been in treatment for cancer since April 2025. He lived in Ogden, Utah, for the last 31 years and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 12, 1961, to Jon Anderson and Donna Kay Nicolaides, and was raised from a young age by Jon and Judy Anderson in Logan, Utah.

He married Kay Lynn Stokes on June 1, 1984, in the Logan temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and together they raised two sons and a daughter, Zachery, Nicholas and Katelyn.

Randy graduated from Logan High School where he cherished fond memories of the close relationships he developed with his buddies. He was an excellent skier and very athletic, in his younger years, he played football, lacrosse and tennis.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Roanoke and Williamsburg Virginia area where he cultivated a love for serving the Lord as well as an interest in history and a love for his country. Subsequent church callings were Sunday School President, Scoutmaster and a variety of positions in music and teaching. Randy’s very favorite calling in the Church was serving as Primary Chorister, which he gladly accepted several times.

Randy graduated from Utah State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Graphic Design and History and a minor in English: Literature Emphasis. He worked as an artist for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri, for several years. Missing the mountains of the West, he returned to Utah State University where he completed classes for an educator preparation program to receive his teaching certification and later earned a Master of Education from Weber State University. Randy was an incredible and creative artist who shared his love of art and ceramics with hundreds of students over his 30 years of teaching, most of that time spent at North Layton Junior High School where he was known by the students as Mr. A.

Randy was a true adventurer and had a deep reverence for the natural world. He found peace and purpose in the wilderness. He loved the National Parks. Whether solo backpacking through Titcomb Basin in the heart of the Wind Rivers or guiding a friend on a hike through Grand Gulch canyon in Cedar Mesa, he was most at home looking up at a star-filled sky. He equated the many days of his life spent hiking to spiritual experiences.

Randy loved to travel, he loved learning about other people, cultures, their food, art and history. He loved reading the classics and learning. He saw life’s humor in many things and loved to laugh. Randy was a big kid, especially in collecting Legos, Disney pins, Hot Wheels and other toys. He enjoyed going on short Sunday hikes with his kids and then watching a movie with them after they got home.

Randy had a great love for his immediate and extended family. He was a wonderful husband, father and uncle, but in recent years, his biggest joy was being grandpa. As we mourn this loss, we also celebrate a legacy that endures through the lives he touched. His example of perseverance and hope will not be forgotten. Family traditions will continue, stories will be retold, and the example he set will guide us through our own journeys.

Randy is survived by his wife, Kay, his children Zachery Anderson (Aisha), Nicholas Anderson (Victoria), and Katelyn Sproul (Nathan); his grandchildren Noelle, Rosalie, Lachlan, and Liliana; his mother Judy Anderson; his siblings Scott Anderson (Jennifer), Joni Georgeson (Dave), Joanna Schow (Greg), John Nicolaides (Lissie) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jon Anderson, his birthmother, Donna Kay Nicolaides, and other extended family members.

A viewing will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1150 N Monroe Blvd, Ogden. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden. Services are entrusted with Leavitt's Mortuary.
