R.E. Gene Johnson, 86, passed away August 23, 2013 in Salt Lake City. Gene was born August 30, 1926 in Manhattan, KS to Chester Merrill and Rose Freida Johnson. Moved to CA in 1937 & finished school at Pasadena Jr.College. Gene was a member of the MethodistChurch & married Delores Elaine Hooper on June 23, 1951 in Pasadena, CA. He served as an Intelligence Coordinator in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When honorably discharged from the Army, he resumed work with his father as a Plaster Contractor in CA. Moving to Hawaii in 1972 then to Utah in 1974, he was a successful builder of custom homes until he was 81.
Gene had many hobbies throughout his life: motorcycle racing, professional dancing, 4-wheeling in the sand dunes & mountains, rock hounding, jewelry making and wood burning. Gene had a special talent of communicating & connecting with people which led to many friendships over the years. He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his wife, Delores and grandson, Jake Hoffman. Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Kent) Bird, a son Brad (Bet) Johnson, a granddaughter Ali Hoffman and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 2:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends may visit family Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm and from 1:00 to 1:45pm prior to services. Interment: Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
