South Weber Rebecca J Petersen Cope, 73, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at home after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born October 7, 1944, in Manti, Utah; the daughter of Jay M and Rebecca Curtis Petersen. Rebecca married Robert Lloyd Cope Jr. on February 1, 1974, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Alaska British Columbia Mission from August 1970 - 1972 as well as serving willingly in many ward and stake callings. She graduated from Highland High School in 1962 and the University of Utah in 1972 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. Rebecca was a very good homemaker and exemplified a strong work ethic and loved to teach children and adults. She developed talents learning to sing and dance, sew, crochet, work in the garden, bottle produce, and arrange flowers for weddings. Her true joy came from being with her family. She is survived by her husband, R.L. Cope Jr. of South Weber, Utah; daughter Cynthia (Travis) Taylor, Layton; and five sons Robert D. (Melissa) Cope of Kaysville; Dr. Andrew L. (Leah) Cope of Newton, Iowa; Jonathan J. (Sharla) Cope of Clinton; Matthew J. (Misty) Cope of Clinton; and Aaron L. (Brooke) Cope of Layton; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Allan E. (Shauna) Petersen of SLC, Curtis L. (Sherry) Petersen, of South Jordan, Glenn J. (Susan) Petersen, of Sandy; and one sister, Anna Lee (Shawn) Winterbottom of South Jordan. She was preceded in death by her Father, Jay M Petersen, and mother, Rebecca Curtis Petersen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Bench Ward, 1814 E. 7775 S., South Weber, Utah under the direction of Bishop Jeremy Stoker. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at the Cedar Bench Ward and on Friday, January 5, 2018, prior to the funeral services at the church from 10:00 10:45 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary. Interment will take place at 2:30 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 3300 So. Highland Dr. in SLC, Utah. The family extends thanks to friends, neighbors and family members for loving care during Rebeccas illness.
