REGINA H. (COHN) BENOWITZReggie Benowitz, 87, passed away on November 7, 2012 after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Ralph Benowitz, who passed in 2010, and the mother of four sons: Marshall, Barry (and his wife Nanette), Stephen (and his wife Tink) and Scott (and his wife Heidi), each of whom gained a strong sense of self, commitment and determination from her teachings. She had four loving grandchildren and three wonderful great grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. Her grandchildren are Joseph (of Orange County, CA), Tyler (of Millbrae, CA), Ari (and his wife Carrie, of Irvine, CA), and Brittany (and her wife Ingrid Drake, of Washington, DC). The three great grandchildren and newest members of the family are Hank and Charlie (two-year old twin sons of Ari and Carrie) and Annika (nine month old daughter of Brittany and Ingrid). Reggie was born January 26, 1925, in Denver, Colorado to Irving and Lena Cohn. Her family moved to Ogden in 1942 when her father began working at the Ogden Army Depot. She had one brother, Lionel, who passed away some years ago. She met Ralph at a friends home (it was a set-up!) and they were married six weeks later, on October 22, 1942. During WWII, she lived for a short time in San Francisco while he was stationed there in the US Navy. Since then she had lived in Ogden and then moved to Salt Lake City. She was deeply involved in causes that she strongly supported. Among other organizations, she was a Board Member of Planned Parenthood of Utah, on the Board of the League of Women Voters of Utah (and previously the President of the Ogden League), and on the Boards of the Ogden and the Salt Lake Public Libraries. During winter months when in Palm Desert, California, she also recorded books for the sight impaired.Reggie left an indelible legacy which always began with her family, and extended to the larger community, where she touched the lives of many.
