Rhea Thayne Hansen's Obituary

Rhea Thayne Hansen June 19, 1926 - March 30, 2015 Rhea Thayne Hansen, 88, passed away peacefully March 30, 2015, in Ogden, Utah. She was born June 19, 1926, in Annis, Idaho to Albert J. Thayne and Jennie Mae Ellis Thayne. She was the fourth of five children. She moved to Tacoma, Washington when she was a young girl and graduated from Puyallup High School in 1945. Rhea married Calvin DeLoy Hansen January 9, 1950 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together before his death in 2000. Her family and the gospel was the focus of her life. Rhea had a productive and happy life. She loved to attend family parties and gatherings. She was known for her homemade rolls and would make them for family and friends each Sunday. She was a hard worker and taught her children how to work in the family garden or around the house. She was resourceful in finding ways to pay for whatever she felt was needed, whether it was a family vacation or something needed to make her house a home. She loved being a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout her life and fulfilled a mission in the Texas-Louisiana Mission as a young adult. She also served a mission later with her sweetheart, DeLoy, in the Corpus Christi Texas Mission. They also served in the LDS Cambodian Branch in Tacoma, Washington and served on the Tacoma Interfaith Council. Rhea served as a ward missionary in Ogden into her 80s. Being a missionary and sharing the gospel with others was one of her lifelong pursuits and something she spoke about even to the end. She served in the temple and many years in church auxiliary presidencies, but serving as a teacher was one of her favorite callings, especially serving as an early morning seminary teacher. She loved working with the youth of the church. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for many years. Rhea is survived by five children: Scott (Pam), Kimberly (Randy), Renee (Dennis), Sheridan (William), and Leslie (Mike), 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, DeLoy; son, Thayne; and grandson Jarom Larson. We are appreciative of Dr. Greg Almony, her cardiologist who cared for her for 16 years and helped make her quality of life beyond what we thought possible.
