Richard Houston Brooks passed on Friday, October 18, 2013. He was born April 18, 1937 to Elma Hooks Brooks and Ray H. Brooks. When Richard was an infant, his father passed away. His mother married Clarence H. Everts who lovingly raised Richard as his own.
In 1959 he married Sally A. Clark. They later divorced. In 1970 He married the love of his life Dixie Bryan. They were married 43 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He attended Ogden City Schools.
He loved rafting the Green River, camping, fishing, hunting, playing pool and target practice with his son-in-law, Rich.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1954. He served for 21 years. He did a tour in Viet Nam during the TET Offensive in 1968. He did a tour in Korea during the Korean War. He did three tours in Germany. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Rangers. He was a medic throughout his entire military career.
In 1989 Rich was the recipient of a donor heart. After the initial problems with rejections, he did extremely well. We would like to express our upmost thanks to the donor family for giving him an extra 24 years of life with his family. We would also like to give thanks to the VA Hospital and the U of U cardiac and transplant team for their special care.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Dixie Bryan Brooks, children Sherrie Brooks Stites (Rich) from Eden, Clark Brooks, Roy, grandchildren Tina Brooks Judkins, Adam Brooks, Amanda Brooks Rivera (Joe), Andrew Brooks, Brye Brooks, Collin Brooks, 4 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson. Siblings Carol Everts May, Holly Everts Hunter, Tim Everts (Karen).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Derk Brooks and Ricky Brooks, his brother Larry Everts and many other loving family members.

Funeral services for Rich will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St. in Ogden. A viewing will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the Services.
