Nick finished his hard fought battle with prostate cancer at home on September 1, 2014, his first really peaceful day in almost three years. He was the youngest of ten children born to John Eldred and Trilbey Inez Brown Nicholas in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School, joined the U.S. Air Force, and served 1 1/2 years in the Philippines during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent. Nick helped start the Philippine Islands First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Utah State University and Weber State. He was President of his pledge class for Sigma Nu and President of the Mens Association. He married Helen Duke, later divorced, gained his oldest daughter Patricia Marie Nicholas Edmisten Maughan. He married Phyllis Ann Hobson, fathered another daughter, Leslie Ann Nicholas Earle and son, Richard Eugene Nicholas. He became a grandfather to Sunny Marie and Zachary Allen Edmisten. Later he gained his granddaughter Stacy Yamashita Russell. Still later he became Papa to Jesse Richard Nicholas Earle and Trevor Raymond Earle. He was very proud of his children but his grandchildren were the apples of his eye! He worked at The Troc in Ogden. His career with First Security Corporation began in 1962. He was promoted from Purchasing Clerk to Director of Purchasing in 1968 responsible for procuring all products required for the operation of the First Security System and overseeing the set up of all new branches in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. He semi-retired March 1986, was retained as a consultant then officially retired June 1987. He was a member of the Weber Club since 1968, served as Director for four years then President 1980 - 1981. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1973. Nick had many great friends who he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with but most of all Nick enjoyed his family! He was a loving, caring, supportive husband, father and Grampa who always had the answer to any dilemma! He enjoyed his afternoons with Phyllis at The Horse visiting with all of their wonderful friends there. He enjoyed his haircuts and visits with Dave. He loved to garden. The only thing he wasnt able to grow was a weed! No one hid Easter eggs better than him! He always had to tell us if we were warm or cold at the end! He loved to hunt, fish, go camping, barbeque, have fish fries, make pickles and salsa, plus he could fix everything! He was gifted with the ability to make something beautiful from anything he could find! He was very intelligent, loved learning and kept his sharp mind right to the end. He always had stories to tell and history of our family, our familys building on 25th Street and Ogden to share. Nick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis, who was always by his side; his children, Leslie and Rick; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his brothers, Leonard, John, Ralph, sisters Barbara and Selma. He is preceded in passing by his parents, daughter Tricia, brothers, sisters, brothers in-law and sister in-law, and many other loved family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. John Hemmersmeier and his wife for answering their door on Sundays, your phone after hours and stopping over to say goodbye. That meant so much! Also special thanks to Nicole and Hailey for working with the Nos, always answering our calls, texts, and especially for the wonderful care you gave to Dad! He loved you and he knew you loved him! To the rest of our Access Hospice team and all of you who came in the middle of the night, we couldnt have cared for him as well as we did without all of your help! Nick requested a closed casket visitation to be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street in Ogden on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:00 am to 12:30 pm to be followed by a graveside service at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road in South Ogden at 1:00 pm. No one who knew Nick will ever forget him! He inspired respect and had a positive impact on so many lives. He was a kind, easy guy to love and will be greatly missed.
