Richard Vier's Obituary

Richard Verdean Vier, 86, passed away on September 11, 2017, from health complications. Richard was born on June 28, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie Vier Lloyd and James Vier; his sister, Dorothy Parker; his wife of 20 years, Sharron Kay Marx they later divorced; three grandchildren; and two loving companions, Dotie Kennedy and Nola Hicks. Dick was married to Doris McGregor they later divorced. He is survived by his sisters, Ruth Blackler and Charmaine McKinnis; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven children while married to Sharron: Jeri, Jan, Michael, Patrick, Rex, Diane, and Mark, along with many nieces; nephews; cousins; in-laws; and friends. A special thanks to Jelbas and the Kokomo for your love and care. Also to the Senior Activity Center where Dick would eat lunch, play Bingo and make new friends. Thank you to the CNAs who cared for Dick. Dick was a military veteran in the US Army during the Korean War. Dick was raised by his mother; she took him to church where he learned his love for singing. He also learned the values of humility, honesty, and love. Dick never complained, nor spoke a negative word about anyone. Dick was an avid reader, memorized long ballads and amazed us with his gift. Dick played in many pool leagues and was an excellent player. He loved to sing from the time he woke up and during his workday while he hung drywall for a living for 50 years. Dick was a good provider. He also taught his four sons the trade. When Roby Kap, Dicks best friend, discovered Dicks deep, rich baritone voice. He invited him to sing on stage with his band, Dick was thrilled and humbled, he had never sung for a large crowd. Soon he was known as Diamond Back Dick to the singing community and his friends. We love and will miss you dad, rest in peace. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Clearfield Community Church, 525 East 200 South, Clearfield, UT.
