Richard McCord Wymore, Sr., (Dick), 91 of Salt Lake City, passed away December 19, 2022 after battling dementia for several years.
Richard was born December 18, 1931 to Jack and Alma Wymore in Laramie, Wyoming. After graduating from Laramie High School, he enlisted in the Army and served his country fighting in the Korean War. After returning home, he attended the University of Wyoming receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences and Agriculture, and later earning his Master’s Degree in Administration. He taught high school agriculture in Big Piney and Lander, WY. During that time, he started the high school ski team in Lander, and later helped start and develop other high school ski teams throughout Wyoming. He also built and owned the KOA campground on the south end of Jackson Hole, WY. He later transitioned from teacher to school administration, where he was the high school principal in Greybull, WY for 3 years. After leaving the education field, he became a farm and ranch manager for 1st National Bank of Denver. He never lost his love of Wyoming and after 3 years in the big city, he was able to purchase the Wonder Bar in Cody, WY. Due to illness, he sadly had to sell the bar, and moved back to Lander, WY, where he would build his appraisal business of farms, ranches and houses. After several years in Lander, he moved his business to Ft. Collins CO, where he worked until he retired. After his wife Mary Jo passed away, he moved to Roy, Utah to be closer to family. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion as well as a 33rd Degree Mason.
Richard had a passion for art and was an avid painter. He loved painting landscapes inspired mostly by places in Wyoming. He also loved to travel. He just loved experiencing life.
Richard is survived by his five children; Richard Wymore Jr. (Beth-Ann) Brigham City, UT; William Wymore, Henderson, NV; P. Gunnar Wymore (Julie), Las Vegas, NV; Krista Lee Schupman (Doug), Jackson, WY; Erica Wymore (Christopher Lowery), Denver, CO. He also has 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jackie Volk, and his first two wives, the mothers of his children, and his third wife Mary Jo, the love of his life.
A family memorial service will be held in Laramie, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization he cared for deeply.
