Rob Roy Birch Chief Warrant Officer 2, Retired Semper Fidelis Rob Roy Birch, 83, passed away on April 4, 2013 at home, in his sleep. A veteran of World War II, the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in North Korea, and the Vietnam War, Rob has now joined his U.S. Marine Corps brothers who fell before him and has been reunited with loved ones who have passed. Rob was born May 3, 1929, in Roberts, Idaho to Joseph M. Birch and Sadie Vada Shaw. He retired from the USMC after 24 years of service to our country. He worked for the U.S. Federal Protective Service for 10 years and held leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 20 years. Rob founded and led the boat ride for the blind program for 23 years with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2472. For 16 years he made Yuma, Ariz. his winter home. Rob married Barbara Jean Flitton on July 28, 1948; they were married for 52 years until her passing on Jan. 20, 2001. He married Pam Wintle on Oct. 12, 2005 and they were married five years before her passing on Oct. 25, 2010. Rob is survived by his sons, Robert (Barbara) of Oceanside, Calif., Shawne of Ogden, daughter Luanne of Ogden, brothers, Lou Birch and Ted Kelso of Ogden, and 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. His daughter Debra and son Dennis preceded Rob in death. A celebration of life will be held Sat. April 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden; where also friends may greet the family Friday, April 12th, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment: Aultorest Memorial Park.
