Robert George Bugnet's Obituary

Robert George Bugnet, 80, passed away surrounded by his family. He was born in Highridge, Alberta, Canada to his parents, Kay Ellis and Charles George Bugnet. As a young child, Robert loved to run and play and discover adventures on their remote Canadian farm. When Robert was six years old he contracted polio that left his left leg crippled. He certainly had to accommodate for his leg, but it never slowed him down. His children remember him as Dad the outdoorsman, builder, camper, farmer, and a play horse. He was exceptionally strong and subsequently very softhearted for anyone who struggled with disabilities. In 1959, Robert joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints while living with a cousin, Louie Ellis, in Edmonton. Later he moved to Utah to attend BYU, but first served a full-time mission in Florida. While attending BYU, he met and married the only love of his life, Karla Marie Call. They were married on June 5, 1967, in the Logan, Utah Temple. After completing his education, the family moved back to Alberta, Canada where he taught industrial arts for 17 years. They raised their eight children on a 160-acre family farm until they returned to Utah in 1990. Robert taught his children to work hard and not take anything for granted. He was active in The Church and he and Karla served as Church Camp Hosts, Guest Service Missionaries on Temple Square, and Missionaries in the Toronto, Canada Temple Mission. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karla; children, Peter (Sherry), Palm Coast, Florida; Don (Claire), San Antonio, Texas; Karalee (Jeff) Sievert, Ponte Vedra, Florida; Melinda (Russell) Sheridan, Mtn. Green, Utah; Michael (Cassie), Salt Lake City, Utah; Paul (Chalaine), Peterson, Utah; Tim (Michelle), Ogden, Utah; Matt (Cassie), Farr West, Utah; 30 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters; and four brothers.
