Robert O. Covington
Robert "Bob" Covington passed away on December 12, 2017, at the age of 84.
Bob was born on Christmas Eve of 1932 in Orderville, Utah, to Nellie and Orsel Covington. He graduated from Grantsville High School in 1951 where he served as Student Body President. He went on to honorably serve in South Korea for the United States Army, where he received training to become a mechanic. He continued working as a fire truck mechanic at Hill Air Force Base until he retired in 1988 at the age of 55 as Vehicle Maintenance Branch Chief. From visiting Egypt to receiving Air Force One, he thoroughly enjoyed his work for the Air Force and loved to tell of the adventures he had through his employment.
He married Marilyn Harris on July 21, 1955. They had four children and created a wonderful life together. Their travels took them all across the county as far as Hawaii and the Caribbean, but their favorite destination was always camping with their family and friends at Panguitch Lake. During those trips, Bob could be found fishing, cooking delicious breakfasts, and playing cards.
Bob was a cowboy at heart. As a young man, he spent time working on ranches and taming wild horses. This experience translated into a love of western novels, cowboy boots (despite his wifes objection), and classic country music.
His stories, smile, and wonderful laugh will all be missed.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his dear friend Pat, the staff at Pheasant View Assisted Living, and AFI Hospice who provided Bob with love and care during the last year of his life.
Bob is survived by his children, Cindy Covington of Ogden, UT, Roger Covington of Ogden, UT, and Wendy (Brent) Ovard of Murray, UT; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Covington; daughter, Rae Jean Masseth; and his granddaughter, Melanie Otterstrom.
