Obituary

Robert Philip Ohlmacher departed this world peacefully on Sunday March 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He slipped into the arms of his deceased wife, Elizabeth Irene Walser who he has missed sorely for seven years. Robert was born at home in Detroit, Michigan on June 24, 1923. He was the last surviving child of Blanche Frieda Froh and Horace Holmes Ohlmacher, preceded in death by his brother, William Sherman, who died in the battle of Iwo Jima, sister Nancy Jane Williams, and brother Frederick John.Over the course of his life Robert has lived in Michigan, Miami Florida, Denver Colorado, and for the past twelve years in Roy, Utah. He graduated from University of Michigan, and flew with the Army Air Corps during WWII, where his squadron was the back up for the squadron of the Enola Gay, which mission he was happily not required to fulfill. He married the woman of his dreams, Irene, on Nov. 15, 1947, and spent the bulk of his working life as a commercial writer.Robert was baptized, along with his family, into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, on June 1, 1963, in Detroit, by the missionaries who taught him the gospel, Elder Richard Zollinger of Logan, Utah and Elder Ronald Letner of Arizona. His membership in the Church became, along with his wife and family, the joy and sustenance of his life. His church service has included presiding in a bishopric in Dearborn, Michigan, as a bishop in Homestead, Florida, and most recently as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple, and as Sunday School President of the Foxglen Ward in Roy. He also served for many years as a chaplain for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the auxiliary organization of the U.S. Air force Civil Air Patrol, and was placed on Emeritus Status as a Major.He is survived by four children, William Douglas of Anchorage Alaska, Judith Elaine Rasmussen of West Haven, Robert Philip Jr. of Roy, and Maribeth Ellen Rhames of Lecanto, Florida, 2 beloved sons-in-law, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, to whom he left a wonderful example of loving kindness, service, patriotism and appreciation.Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, at the Foxglen Ward, 3629 W. 4800 S., Roy, at 11 A.M., preceded by a viewing which will begin at 9:45 A.M.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leavittsmortuary.com Visitation Information Date: Saturday, March 12, 2011 Time: 9:45 am - 11:00 am Foxglen Ward Address: 3629 West 4800 South, , Roy, UT, | Map Service Information Date: Saturday, March 12, 2011 Time: 11:00 am - Foxglen Ward Address: 3629 West 4800 South, , Roy, UT, | Map
