Robert Pearce Shelton's Obituary

The long goodbye is finally over for Pearce; he graduated to heaven! He was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2005. He was born July 20, 1933 in Salt Lake City where he spent most of his youth. Pearce met Nancy Ivins at East High School. He played or watched any sport. He served an LDS Mission in Western Canada in 1953 - 1956. He married Nancy Friday the 13th, 1956 in the SLC Temple and celebrated every Friday the 13th for the next 58 years. He had 7 children: Stacy, Holly(deceased), Scott (Stacy), Brett (Joy), Wendy (Ian) Forrest, Tiffany (Kent) Halterman, Melinda; 19 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. He was the first Bishop in the Washington Terrace 9th ward where he helped build the building. He served on the High Council in the Terrace View Stake. He also served in the Ogden Temple for 6 years between LDS missions to Boston, Mass., Cove Fort, and Mt. View girls camp. He graduated from East High in 1951, earned his Bachelors Degree from the U of U, and a Masters Degree in communications from BYU. Pearce worked for the telephone company for 33 years. He started as a janitor and ended in management. He drove truck for C.R. England for fun. Then he was Washington Terrace City Manager for 7 years. He loved skiing - was ski patrol & ski instructor at Snow Basin. He was so excited to turn 75 and get a free season pass. He was happy to do any sport and kept his clubs and racquets in the trunk at all times. He wanted to be prepared in case anyone wanted to play. He was a great husband, dad, and friend. He was salty, funny, and didnt think he always needed to follow the rules. Mom made the white fluffy bread, and Dad made whole wheat bread. He crocheted afghans, knitted socks, and could tie a quilt in one football game. The service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary at 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
