Together AgainRobert Thomas StrattonJuly 21, 1923 ~ April 13, 2011In memory of our loving father, grandfather and brother, Robert Thomas Stratton lost his courageous battle to Leukemia, April 13, 2011. He was surrounded by all of his family during that past week as he prepared to return to his Heavenly Father, his loving wife (Ollie Jean) and many family members who had anxiously been waiting for his return home. Bob was born in Malad, Idaho on July 21, 1923 to Robert Cole Stratton and Sylvia Thomas. He was raised and schooled in Malad, Idaho. He excelled in sports, especially in basketball. He played all 4 years on Varsity, the last two years he was captain of the Malad Dragons. He was 1 of 5 chosen to play for Idahos All-State Basketball team for 2 years consecutively. He received a scholarship in basketball from Malad High to the University of Idaho Moscow. His college experience was cut short when he was drafted into the Army 11th Airborne Infantry during WWII where he served in the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945. Shortly after returning home from the war he met and married his sweetheart Ollie Jean Bowden on June 1, 1946. Bob joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was baptized July 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple in September 1956, where their children were sealed to them for time and all eternity. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many callings. His favorite calling though was serving as a Home Teacher. Dad was very social. Bob owned and operated Howard and Bobs Texaco on 30th and Washington Blvd. for 32 years. He also worked for Bill and Dixie Sneddon who were great friends, for approximately 20 years at their convenience store located on 2nd and Harrison Blvd. Bob retired in his early 80s. Bob loved life and especially loved sports. He was an avid Jazz fan even up until his last few days. He also had a passion for Golf. His loving wife (Ollie Jean) of sixty years preceded him in death on December 19, 2006.He is survived by his children JoAnn (Ross) Stokes, Robert Stratton Jr. (Bonnie) and Carolynn (Terry) Fisher. 10 grand children, 33 great grand children and 7 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Jean (Mace) Johnson of Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Pleasant Valley Ward, 850 East 5640 South, at 1:30 p.m. Family may visit with friends on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.
