Roger Lee Porter, 92, passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2015, in Ogden, Utah. He was born on July 11, 1923, in Harrisville, Utah, to Omni Abinadi (OA) and Edith (Sorgatz) Porter. Roger attended schools in Ogden and was a member of the first graduating class at Ogden High School. During his youth, he and his twin brother Richard Dee Porter trained Coopers hawks for hunting. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in England where he learned to ice dance. He graduated from Weber College and attended the University of Utah. He married Gwenda Cragun in Logan, Utah, in 1952. They had five children. They later divorced but remained life-long friends. Roger loved to watch birds, hike, hunt, fish, golf, and dance, especially the waltz. Roger is survived by his five children, Sandra Ward, Seattle; Kent Porter, Layton; Gary Porter, Roy; Nancy Stagg (Craig), Grand Junction; Dennis Porter (Gwyn), Ogden. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and sisters Myrna Stathis, Salt Lake City and Carol Layton, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Florence, twin brother Richard Dee Porter and sister Corinne. The family would like to thank IHC Hospice nurse Julie, volunteer Wendy, and caregiver Korina for their tender care. The family also thanks Gwenda Meyer for her kindness and hospitality during the final years of his life. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 am.
