Additional Notes by Ron Farnsworth:
Roland joined scouts when he was 11 years old. He remained an active scout until he turned 18. By that time he had achieved his Eagle Scout award as well as three Palms. For his Eagle Scout Project he built an Eagle Mew for the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. It will always stand as a memorial to him. He didnt choose the easiest, fastest, or cheapest project.just the opposite. It took him almost a year to complete. It houses a recovering eagle today.
Roland worked at Camp Loll near Yellowstone National Park for three consecutive summers.
While attending Ogden High School, Roland was a member of the swim team where he competed weekly during the season. He was also a member of the stage crew and got paid to work the sound system and lighting for several events at the school. He also began working on his machining degree at the Ogden Weber ATC. Roland was very intelligent and enjoyed chemistry, psychology, and English. Rolly was interested in pursuing his education in machining and psychology because he genuinely wanted to help others.
