IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald Gary
Shapiro
September 3, 1947 – December 19, 2024
Ronald Gary Shapiro was born September 3, 1947, to "D" Morris and Leah Miner Shapiro in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away on December 19, 2024.
At the age of 11, he was asked by his bishop to learn to play the piano so he could accompany the singing of hymns in church meetings. That started him on his lifelong musical path. Piano lessons led to playing the organ, the accordion, and the French horn in High School.
He graduated from Granite High School in 1966, then he served his first mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Frankfurt Germany Mission. Soon after returning home, he was introduced to his future wife. They were married on November 26, 1969, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Hazard Shapiro, and nine children, Ronald and Carrie Shapiro, Samuel and Lukie Shapiro, James and Rebecca Shapiro, Daniel Shapiro and Sybil Nienke, Ellen and Scott Campbell, Benjamin and Heidi Shapiro, Jacob and Becky Shapiro, Leah and Chad Rogers, Jack Shapiro, and 44 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was the oldest of nine siblings, Ann Stuart, Teresa and Bruce Talbot, Arlyn and Sheryl Shapiro, Gloria Bartlome, Bruce and Mischell Shapiro, Jack Sterling Shapiro, David and Holly Shapiro and Sally Dietrick.
Preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Ann Stuart and Sally Dietrick and his grandson, Dominick Shapiro.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ. His love of the gospel of Jesus Christ prompted him to compile and publish an Exhaustive Concordance of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. He loved teaching in Priesthood and Sunday School classes in his wards.
He worked in the publishing business for various companies including working at the Utah State Prison's print shop as manager and guard for five years, before discovering his love of computer programming. He then worked for a small computer software company, Data Systems International, and then for Credit Union Data Processing (later known as CU Prodigy) until his retirement in 2015.
He and his wife Debbie served a mission together in the New York New York City South mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from March of 2016 to June of 2018. It was a highlight of their retirement experiences. They also served as temple ordinance workers in the church's Ogden Utah Temple.
