Ronald C. Mandler's Obituary

Ronald C. Mandler passed away January 7, 2014. Ron was born September 4, 1930. He was the sixth child born to Wesley C. and Erlamond G. (Nee Garbe) Mandler; both deceased in Cosby, Missouri. Ron graduated from Savannah High School in 1948. While in high school Ron earned letters in football and track. He was selected First Team All Conference Tackle his junior year and took 2nd place at State in the shot put his sophomore year. He was chosen by the American Legion to attend Boys State in Fulton, Missouri. In the summer of 1947 he went to school to study State Government. In December of 1951 Ron enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After indoctrination at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, Ron was sent to Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX for basic training. He then attended "Air Traffic Control" school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. He served 22 years in the Air Force. While stationed in Colorado Ron met and married Betty L. McNamara on December 12, 1953. Together they shared 60 years of life. Ron attended Weber State University and retired from Civil Service after 39 years of combined service. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8868. He was also an honorary member of the Utah Sheriffs Association. Ron enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, fishing, hunting, stamp and coin collecting. He is survived by his wife Betty and a daughter, Pamela (Randy) Stewart of Orland, FL. And two grandchildren; Ashley E. and Colton C. Stewart. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald C. Mandler II. A memorial services for Ron will be held 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street Ogden. Friends and family may gather one hour prior to services. As per Rons wishes Leavitts Mortuary will be in care of his cremation. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Veterans Fund if desired.
