IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosa
Groeneveld
August 9, 1943 – May 14, 2025
"Allow the light and the healing presence of Christ to shine brightly through your lives. In that way, all those who come in contact with you will discover the loving kindness of God."
- St. Pope John Paul II
Rosa Elba Groeneveld (Herrera), lovingly known as Elba, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on May 14, 2025, in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by her devoted family. Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to Carlos Nolasco Enamorado and Adilia Herrera Molina, Elba lived a life of boundless love, compassion, and unwavering faith that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Elba was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Robert (Bob) D. Groeneveld, and her parents. She leaves behind a cherished legacy in her children, Porfirio Dubón and his wife, Jennifer, of Tampa, FL, and Alma Dubón and her husband, Scott Hawkyard, of Ogden, UT. Her three grandchildren — Dr. Kelsie Dubón of Tampa, FL, Jacqueline Dubón, and Zachary Dubón of Ogden, UT—will forever hold her memory close. Elba is also mourned by a wide circle of extended family and friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth and grace.
Born on Aug 9, 1943 and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras alongside her mother and siblings, Elba pursued studies in law and excelled as an accountant in her early years. It was there she met the love of her life, Bob, and together they embarked on a journey filled with adventure and cherished memories. From their early years in Albuquerque, NM, to later homes in California, Texas, and Florida, Elba embraced life near her children and grandchildren, ultimately settling in Ogden, UT, for her final six months.
Elba's gentle spirit and sly sense of humor endeared her to all. A devout woman, she found solace in the rosary and strength in her faith. Her love for music often led to joyful merengue dances at family gatherings, and her green thumb brought beauty to her gardens and daily walks in nature. Above all, Elba's unwavering devotion to her family and her radiant smile left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Though Elba's physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit continues to inspire and uplift. Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As she rejoins her beloved Bob and worships in eternal peace, her light will forever shine brightly in our memories.
Elba's cremated remains will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA, in a committal service at Section CC15A, Row 5, Site 19A. The family is finalizing arrangements for a funeral and reception, with details to be shared soon.
The Dubón family extends heartfelt gratitude for the thoughts, prayers, and love shown to Elba and her loved ones during this time. May her memory be a blessing.
