On Saturday, January 7th, 2023 Rulon Rex Benson passed away at the age of 77. Rulon was born on May 14th, 1945 in Blackfoot, ID to Rex & Lorna (Parks) Benson. After attending Bonneville High School, he graduated from Snake River High School in 1963. He completed some college and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. He was a DOD retiree of 41 years at Hill Air Force Base and served 16 years in the Navy and Air Force reserves. Rulon spent his time camping, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles and four-wheeling, unofficially titled King of the Camp. He coached his daughters softball team, teaching his kids life skills and skiing, as well as participated in Boy Scouts with his sons. He loved to travel and was not afraid to take risks. Playful, he had a zest for life that affected those he called friends. Rulon would also be there whenever needed and was the first call for many. In 1965, Rulon married Linda (Wiltse) Benson at Community United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; three children: Michael (Camron), Kristi (Mike), Matthew (Dana); six grandchildren: Melissa, Sidney, Andrew, Nathan, Mason, and Libby; eleven great grandchildren: Alexi, Caden, Ryker, Kashdyn, Izyk, Amelia, Westyn, Rextyn, Nash, TaLeigha, and Treysen. Preceded in death by his parents, older brother Alva, sister Celia, great-grandson Ren Benson and is survived by six sisters: Pamela, Yvonne, Lesa, Phyllis, Marie, and Stephanie; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at Leavitts Mortuary on Thursday, January 12, from 5-7 PM. Military Honors will be at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, special thanks may be made to American Heart Association or Alzheimers Association.
