Ruth Marion Parkinson Lien May 27, 1921 - February 1, 2013Our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Auntie, 91, passed away February 1, 2013, at Aspen Care Center in Ogden, Utah, early in the morning, peacefully in her sleep. She was looking forward to her next life joining her husband, Mother, Father, sisters and other relatives who had gone before. She was a last leaf in her immediate family.She was born at home in Franklin, Idaho, in the front bedroom of the Parkinson pioneer home. Her parents were a son and a daughter of Mormon pioneers to Utah and Idaho. Her Mothers name was Agnes Ruth White and her Fathers name was Roland Hobbs Parkinson. She spent an idyllic childhood in Franklin, Idaho, on the family farm, stomping hay, and getting in the cows from the field. She was a big help to her parents in the home and on the farm. She enjoyed playing basketball in her youth. She was the oldest of three sisters; the others were Barbara Jane and Jeanne. During the depression, her Mother sewed her little girls coats and dresses, cutting down material from adult coats and dresses. They were never in need at this time because her Father and Mother worked the farm and knew how to make do with what they had.She attended Utah Agricultural College, later Utah State University, and got a degree in Secretarial Science. She made her living as a secretary and superior typist, while raising her four children. She met her husband at Fort Douglas at a U. S. O. Dance. The love of her life was named Gerard Albert Lien. They ran away to get married at The Presidio Chapel in San Francisco. He was a member of the Army Air Corps and the family traveled with him around the United States. They had four children; Diana (Nick) Velis, Vicki Lien Hansen (Clair, divorced), Roland (Lanida) Lien, and Michael (Leona, divorced) Lien. She had ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren, one deceased. She was a loving "Gramma" to all. She also had many nieces and nephews who fondly remember her, too.She was always a stylish lady who loved to travel and doing genealogy in her Pioneer Heritage. She was a faithful member of the L. D. S. Church all her life. She enjoyed doing cross-stitch and playing the piano. She could type over 100 words a minute and was a real gift to her employers. She worked at Bushnell Army Hospital in Brigham City, First Security Bank in Logan, Utah, St. Benedicts Hospital and McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah for many years.She will be remembered for her vivacity, honesty, and unspoiled attitudes. The Celebration of her life will be Tuesday evening, February 5th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St., and her Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 6th, at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. also at the mortuary. Burial will be at Franklin Pioneer Cemetery, Franklin, Idaho.
