Ruth M. Overman passed away September 16, 2014 in her hometown of Ogden, Utah. Born August 23, 1929 to Walsie Speer and Coy Alvin Thurman, she was the youngest of five children and the only girl. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1947, earned her Associates degree from Weber State College in 1949 and later attended the University of Utah. She married Lewis R. Casteel in June 1949 and together they had five children (later divorced). She married Lester M. Casteel in June 1969 (deceased 1973). She married Guy M. D. Overman in January 1981 (deceased 2008). She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 57 years in Queen Esther Chapter #4 in Ogden and Valley Chapter #5 in Provo, Utah. She served the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star as Grand Lecturer in 1980, Grand Treasurer in 1991 and 1992, and as Worthy Grand Matron of Queen Esther Chapter #4 in 1994-1995. She is survived by her daughters Vickie Lynne Rock (Roger), Janet Kathleen Daniels (Dennis), son James Edward Casteel, daughter-in-law Betty Overman, fifteen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Craig Alvin Thurman, Donn Campbell Thurman, Joe Ben Thurman, William Franklin Thurman, and sons Harvey Overman, Richard Lester Casteel and Jerry Lee Casteel. Funeral Services will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 -36th St., Ogden, Utah on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am - 10:45 am . Internment will be held at Aultorest Memorial Park.
