Sarah Elizabeth Shelley ChadwickOur beloved mother and grandmother, Sarah S. Chadwick passed away on March 5, 2012.Sarah was born January 11, 1917, in American Fork to Stephen T. Shelley and Hazel S. Shelley. She was the oldest child with a younger sister, Virginia and younger brother, Paul both of whom she adored deeply. She attended school in American Fork and graduated from American Fork High at the age of 16. She attended Brigham Young University where she studied English and French. This love of language and literature stayed with her throughout her life. She loved poetry, literature and language and was an eloquent, beautiful writer of prose and poetry. Sarah married Raymond S. Chadwick on June 9, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were a devoted, loving couple for 67 years. Their children and their spouses are Raymond and Lanette Chadwick of Layton and Shelley and Jeff Blakeley of Logan. They have 5 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren. Their marriage has been a long and happy one and they have always been sweethearts. Sarah was a devoted, loving wife, mother and daughter. She supported Ray during World War II when he served in the Navy. She and Ray loved the early years of their marriage when he traveled around the country because of his military service or his job. Sarah devoted herself throughout her life to taking care of her family- her own family as well as her mother and her sister. She was totally devoted and willingly sacrificed her time, talents and love. Sarah was a beautiful, sensitive intelligent woman. She had a phenomenal memory and was a prolific reader. She taught us to be tolerant and open-minded, compassionate and kind. She loved the finer things in life-literature, music, poetry and art. She was an independent thinker and an avid seeker of knowledge. We have been blessed by her example of love and devotion. Graveside services for Sarah will be held on at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at American Fork Cemetery, 26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah.
