Shauna Gay Whittier Turner, 65, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016, surrounded by love. She was born on May 12, 1951, to Bruce and Fern Whittier. She grew up in Ogden, Utah, graduated from Ben Lomond High School, and attended Utah State University, where she met the love of her life, David Turner. Dave and Shauna were married in Logan, Utah, on March 27, 1971.
Later that year, they started their family. Shauna and Dave raised three very active daughters, Natalie, Audrie, and Emilie. She attended every important event in her daughters lives. She loved all animals and all children, and they loved her. She had a quiet, silly sense of humor, making up goofy words on a regular basis, which were quickly adopted by family and friends.
Shauna worked as a part-time secretary at Community United Methodist Church for 22 years, was an attendance secretary at Dee School for 3 years, and an administrative assistant for her brother-in-laws business for 3 years. But what she loved most was being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, auntie, and friend, and she did it with grace.
Shauna and Dave worked hard at their marriage, spending 45 years building an amazing life together, filled with love. Though she suffered many heartbreaks, Shauna showed unconditional love to the people closest to her and often made anonymous gestures of support to complete strangers.
Shauna will be missed always, but we are grateful that she is finally at peace after suffering for too long from early onset dementia. She was petite and fragile, but strong enough to live long past all medical predictions.
Shauna is survived by her husband, David Turner (Ogden); her daughters, Audrie Terre (Stephan) of Tucson, AZ, and Emilie Turner (Laurie) of Salt Lake City; her beautiful grandchildren, Carter Pochynok (20), Clara Pochynok (17), Trey Haight (14), and Leif Terre (9); her sisters, Sally Bailey (Chuck) of Spokane, WA; Susan McCrady (Andy) of Ogden; and Melinda Whittier of Ogden; her mother-in-law, Ruth Turner, and brother-in-law, John Turner (Lori), both of Twin Falls, ID; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Natalie Turner (Hailey, ID); her nephew, Jake Turner (Twin Falls, ID); her mother and father, Bruce and Fern Whittier (Ogden); and her father-in-law, Keith Turner (Twin Falls, ID).
Shaunas family would like to thank the angels at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living and Comfort WoRx Hospice. You made the end of Shaunas life more comfortable, and you treated us all with such compassion. Thank you also to Dr. Michael Woolman and his nurse, Rita, for advocating for a proper diagnosis and for getting Shauna the best care possible.
