Shirley Ritchie's Obituary

Shirley Ritchie, 91, passed away March 26, 2016 at home with family by her side. She was born May 12, 1924 to William Lavonzo Bowden and Lillian Mary Long in Sparks, Nevada. Shirley was raised in Brigham City, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School. She worked at the Defense Depot, Hill Air Force Base and she aided in the assembly at aircrafts during WWII. She later worked as a dental assistant. Shirley met her husband, Ensign. They were married in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1953 and spent 46 wonderful years together. From this union came five children. She was a great mom, a devoted homemaker and a wonderful cook. Shirley enjoyed traveling, painting, attending Weber State basketball games and watching the Utah Jazz. In her later life, her priority was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring person to all people and animals alike. The family wishes to express gratitude to the hospice workers who loved and cared for their mom. Mom will be greatly missed by her family. Shirley is survived by her five children: Rod Hastie, Leslie Chaparro (Henry), Melvin Ritchie, Jodie Benson, Tony Ritchie (Paula); nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; also survived by two sisters, Beverly Evans of St. George, Utah, Zada Bowden of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Blaine Bowden of Bountiful, Utah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ensign Ritchie; parents; two brothers, Renald and Garth Bowden and sister, Genevieve Friedal.
