Shirley Kathleen Wheeler's Obituary

Shirley Kathleen Wheeler, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 12, 2013. She was born August 9, 1926 to Joseph B. Williams and Dora I. Marler in her Aunt Mamies house in Ogden. She was one of eleven children, several of whom died in infancy. Shirleys father, Joe, died of pneumonia when she was just eight months old. Shirleys mother, Dora, was a well known artist in the Ogden area. Dora was a single parent who lived on a shoestring and did all she could for her children. Shirley attended Ogden City Schools; however, she quit to help care for her family. She worked in North Ogden at the Chick-Chick Inn, "the cleaners", as well as Walgreens, where she met her first husband Toyer H. Harper. They were married in Feb 1947 and had three children; Toyetta, Guy, and Wally. They divorced in 1952. Shirleys cousin introduced her to Sherman L. Wheeler (deceased); they were married Dec 23, 1953 and had four more kids; Robin, Billy, Jody, and Becky. Shirley was an avid movie lover and would spend only five cents to see a double feature. She spent a lot of time with her cousin Jean. They would take pictures of each other on park benches, posing as Hollywood starlets. She could name every movie star from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Even in her last days she wanted to watch movies. When asked what she would buy if she won the lottery, she replied, "I would have bought a movie theater!" Shirley loved her Tasters Choice coffee and attributed it to her long life, along with DHEA! She was very blessed with seven children, and as a result, her home was always filled with the children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family and she attended every function she possibly could. She was preceded in death by her parents, eleven brothers and sisters, and her spouse.Shirley is survived by her children: Toyetta Jolley (Ogden, UT), Guy Harper (Douglas, WY), Wally Harper (West Valley City, UT), Robin (Ted) Tenbrink (Gibbonsville, ID), Billy Wheeler (Ogden, UT), Jody Wheeler (Ogden, UT), and Becky Wheeler (Ogden, UT) as well as twenty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
