IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sonja
Isaacson
October 24, 1935 – November 13, 2024
Sonja was born on October 24, 1935 to Harvey and Hilda Hull. She was the eldest of their five daughters, a role that shaped her into a responsible, caring, and dedicated individual. From a young age, she displayed a love for art, crafts, and homemaking—qualities that would remain with her throughout her life.
While attending Brigham Young University, Sonja met Burke Lee Isaacson. They fell in love quickly, and it was clear to all who knew them that they were truly made for each other. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957 and began building a life rooted in faith, love, and family. Sonja and Burke were blessed with four children—Julie, Janalee, Brent, and Suzette—whom they loved dearly. Sonja was a devoted mother, guiding her children with high standards and a deep care for their happiness and success. Sonja loved being a grandmother and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Her famous cookies and personalized, handmade cards will be cherished memories for them.
Creativity was woven into the fabric of Sonja's life. She had an eye for design and style that was reflected in everything she touched. She never did anything halfway; every project became a work of art in her hands. Painting was her true artistic passion, and watercolors became her favorite medium in her later years. In addition to painting, Sonja spent many years crafting intricate cornhusk dolls as a way to honor her pioneer heritage. Her love of family history extended to genealogy, where she meticulously created beautiful family scrapbooks filled with memories and ancestral records.
Throughout their life together, Sonja and Burke shared a love that withstood many challenges, including the loss of their infant daughter, and later, Burke's stroke that would lead to a steady health decline. Sonja became his caregiver until he passed away in 2014. Sonja missed him every second of the 10 years they spent apart. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with Burke.
This past year, Sonja experienced profound heartbreak in the loss of two of her children within just a few months of each other. She bore these losses with resilience; leaning on her faith and the love of her family. Her remaining daughter, Suzette, along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, her son in law, her sisters, and many other family members will miss her dearly.
Sonja's legacy is one of faith, creativity, family, and elegance. Her influence will live on in the lives of her family and in the many works of art and family history she leaves behind. Now reunited with Burke, Sonja is at peace, her joy complete as she is back in the arms of the love of her life.
The family would like to thank all who helped care for Sonja at Our House Assisted Living; thank you for your love and kindness.
