Obituary

In Loving Memory of Stephen Terrill Yates.

Stephen Terrill Yates, 71, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026. He was born on December 16, 1954, in El Centro, California, to Emma Venita (Frazer) Yates and Henry Newton Yates.

Steve grew up in El Centro, California, where he attended school and began his construction career at a young age as a roofer. He then moved briefly to Modesto, California, where he worked as a supervisor for Grover Construction. He later moved to Utah, eventually settling in South Ogden. In 2000, he married Jennifer, and together they raised their daughter, Allie Rae Yates. He also became a stepfather to Angela and Patrick Michael Ryan.

Steve graduated from Salt Lake Community College in 1997 and was working as an IT Supervisor at SLC until his retirement.

Steve had a passion for hiking, rock collecting, and searching for antiques. He loved listening to music, especially Elton John, Alison Krauss, and Michael Jackson. He was a hardworking man who found joy in the simple things and helped anyone in need.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jennifer B. Yates; his daughter, Allie Rae Yates Estrada (Javier); his stepchildren, Angela, Merchant (Jessie), and Patrick Michael Ryan; and his grandchildren, including Ozias Santana Estrada, Owen Russell, Oakley Rose, and Skye Wilde Merchant. He is also survived by his two sisters, Vickey Joyce Pascua and Carroll Jo Stromberg (Kent).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Newton Yates and Emma Venita Frazer; his sisters, Lyn Allison Campbell and Glenda Rae Yates; and his brother-in-law, Daniel Pascua.

Steve will be deeply missed and forever remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
