Steven Garth McCormick, 72, passed away on August 8, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and his presence will be greatly missed.

Steven was born November 27, 1953 in Pocatello, Idaho to Donald and Jennie McCormick. Donald served in the military and that service took Steven and his siblings, Ernest and Jocy, to Japan, Germany and Virginia. Those journeys instilled a love of travel that lasted throughout his life. He graduated from Denbigh High School in Virginia in 1972. He served a two-year mission for the LDS church in Bristol England from 1978 to 1980.

In 1982, he married Janet Anderson and had three sons, Eli, Adam and Chris. In 1986, Steven graduated from Montana State University with a bachelors in mathematics, a minor in physics and a teaching certificate. Steven and Janet divorced in 1988. In 1993, Steven was sealed to Debbie Owens in the Ogden, Utah temple. She was the love of his life and his travel companion and square dancing partner.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he was proud to be a veteran of the armed forces, serving in the US Army for 2 1/2 years . He also served in the Idaho National Guard for 15 years. Steven worked at Benchmark Behavioral Hospital for 25 years, as a math teacher for students with behavioral and developmental disorders. Steven kept busy with woodworking, gardening, and square dancing. He enjoyed traveling, watching old movies and attending concerts put on by the Davis Art Council.

Steven is survived by his wife Debbie; son Eli McCormick, and his wife, Miriam Allred; daughter Jessica Bergen and her husband, Jason; son Adam McCormick; son Chris McCormick and his wife, Hilary; grandchildren, Chase, Cade, Iris, Charlie, Arthur, Zeke and Anderson; and his beloved dog Ellie. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest McCormick and his wife DeAnn and his sister, Jocy McCormick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jennie McCormick.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 16th from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. located at Leavitt's Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street in Ogden, Utah. A funeral service for Steven will be held the following day on Monday, August 17th at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. All who wish to remember Steven with his family are invited to attend.
